Economic growth is often touted as the solution to many of the world’s problems. Government officials commonly claim that they’re going to “grow the economy” to help fix social ills. Yet, despite substantial growth, social ills remain. Does this mean the claims for growth are wrong? Or is the perception of growth somehow flawed?

This seminar will explore both the sources of economic growth and the promises offered by such growth. In this discussion, the challenges of growth in high vs. lower income countries will be considered. And, as any reputable economist would advise, both the potential benefits and costs of growth will be considered.
