Africa and the New Silk Road – Development in the 21st Century

The modern economic history of Africa provides lessons on colonialism, international intervention, corruption, and unfulfilled promise. This course looks at the historical development of Africa (with a primary focus on Sub-Saharan Africa), the legacy of colonialism, and how China’s present “Belt and Road” initiative fits into historical international efforts to encourage the economic development of Africa. The course should be of interest to those who teach world history, global geography, or issues of economic development. Specific connections to High School and Middle School Geography and Economics standards, as well as Middle School Civics.

Time: 8:30 am to 4:00 pm
Fee: $25 class fee*
Optional Credit: ½ UCCS ECON 6310 Graduate Credit Hour, $50. Credit is good for Certificate in Economic Education.

$50 & $100 Teacher Travel Stipends Are Available

Economic Literacy Colorado is offering a travel stipend for active COLORADO teachers. Fill out a form (provided at the class) and we will send you a check upon mileage verification. Receive $50 when you drive over 75 miles one way or $100 when you drive over 200 miles one way. One stipend per carpool please.

We encourage teachers of all grade levels to attend any of our classes.
