Pricing with Market Power
November 16, 2019 | Denver | Accredited

Why do movie tickets for children cost less than those for adults? Why does Costco charge lower prices per item for buying larger quantities in bulk? What makes Barbie like an HP printer? The answers to these questions involve pricing with market power – how to increase profits using different pricing strategies. As consumers, we encounter them every day. Students love to think about pricing strategies and they often come up with interesting examples from their own experience. This material builds upon what students learn about perfect competition and monopoly, but can also be understood without formal models beyond supply and demand curves. Connections to Economics and PFL throughout the K-12 standards.
