PERSONAL FINANCE AND HOW TO TEACH IT
The online MoneyWi$er workshops are designed to help K-12 teachers acquire the knowledge and skills needed for classroom teaching and for personal life. Classroom activities and lessons align with the revised 2020 Colorado Academic Standards in personal financial literacy.
We are offering one date in 2024, for both first-time teachers and returning teachers who attended a previous year’s workshops.
CLASS DETAILS:
Grades: Teachers of All Grade Levels
FEE: $25
Time: 8:00 am - 4:00 pm
Continuing Education: 7.5 hour continuing education letter available
Includes: Lesson plans
Attendance Stipends: Each teacher participant will receive a $75stipend for attendance. This amount covers your $25 registration fee and an additional $50 stipend.
Note: Please select 201 ONLY if you attended a previous MoneyWi$er class. If you skip the 101 class, you will miss out on many valuable resources!
MoneyWi$er 101: First-Time Attendees of MoneyWi$er
Here’s what you can expect:
A dynamic keynote speaker who will jump-start your day with great advice.
Sessions with mentor teachers that will focus on Colorado’s revised Personal Finance standards and how to integrate them into your classroom with engaging lessons and activities.
Midday expo with representatives and virtual videos from educational organizations that offer lessons, activities, and materials for teachers and students of all grades.
Sessions on financial topics that will benefit you personally, including saving and budgeting, understanding the stock market, wills and estate planning, paying off debt, planning for retirement, and more.
MoneyWi$er 201: Returning Teachers (Previous attended MoneyWi$er in 2018-2023)
Returning teachers will follow a different track much of the day, while still gaining knowledge and skills for both your personal lives and professional development. Here’s what you can expect:
A dynamic keynote speaker
Sessions with mentor teachers and educational presenters who will help you expand your PFL knowledge and develop new lessons and curriculum for your K-12 classroom.
Midday expo with representatives and virtual videos from educational organizations that offer lessons, activities, and materials for teachers and students of all grades.
Presenters on familiar AND new financial topics that will benefit you personally, allowing you to develop new interests or expand on previous content you learned.
REGISTRATION GUIDELINES: We try to identify the best fit for our open enrollment classes, usually by the kinds of resources and pedagogy included in the class. However, it is our STRONG belief that the content from any of these classes is valuable for the professional development of any teacher, will enhance the understanding of ALL teachers, and will inspire creative applications in individual classrooms. We encourage teachers of all grade levels to attend any of our classes.
