The Legislation and Regulation of Financial Institutions – Failures from the Savings and Loan Crisis to SVB, September 16 | Hybrid (Denver/Online) | Accredited

While this class “may” do some historical investigation of banking policies, its main focus will be on the past 30+ years of financial sector risk taking.  Starting with the savings and loan crisis which resulted in the failure of nearly a third of the savings and loan associations in the United States between 1986 and 1995, Dr. DeBoer will track the issues of the financial industry with risk taking through the dot.com bubble, the Great Recession, and recent news stories like the collapse of Silicon Valley Bank.  Specific topics will include liquidity crises, banking regulation and bank failures, as well as lessons and activities to help you explain the incentives and events to your students.
