Economic Literacy Colorado announces Amy Sherman as new Chief Executive Officer

DENVER - January 24, 2023 -  Economic Literacy Colorado (ELC) announced today that Amy Sherman has been hired as the new Chief Executive Officer. Most recently serving as the President and CEO of the Northwest Douglas County Chamber and Economic Development Corporation, Amy brings a strong background in public service and decades of building partnerships with leaders and influencers to champion important work for the community.

“We are thrilled to start our next chapter with this visionary leader,” said Sandy Shoemaker, Board Chair of ELC. “With a new CEO, we are eager to grow and expand the reach and impact of our mission. Amy is committed to carrying out our work and driving us into the future.”

“As the daughter of one of the first female FirstBank officers, I was taught financial literacy throughout my childhood and as a young professional,” said Amy Sherman. “I am privileged to have personal financial mentors in my life, something every child should have access to. I am honored to be the next CEO of ELC and lead the mission to ensure every Colorado student has access to personal finance and economic education.

Former President and CEO, Debbie Pierce, is retiring after serving seven years at ELC. Her tenure included leading the organization through the pandemic and quickly transitioning all programming virtually so that teachers were able to still access the crucial resources and tools needed to educate students.

“While this is a bittersweet milestone for me, I can’t think of a better person to bring fresh ideas and leadership to this organization,” said Debbie Pierce. “I am excited to see where ELC is headed with Amy at the helm and will continue to support this important cause.”

Amy was one of Denver Business Journal’s 40 Under 40 winners in 2012, Economic Development Rookie of the Year in 2013, and Denver Business Journal’s Top Women in Energy in 2015. Additionally, Amy was awarded the Colorado Chamber President of the Year 2008, and top women of Jefferson County in 2011. Her career includes serving as the President of the West Metro Chamber in Jefferson County and working for the Longmont Area Chamber of Commerce, the Colorado Tourism Office, and the National Potato Council.

ELC provides economic and personal financial professional development programs and classroom resources to teachers, schools and school districts throughout Colorado. EconLitCo is the only nonprofit organization in the state providing K-12 teachers with professional development and classroom enrichment opportunities to prepare students to successfully participate in our economic system and achieve personal financial sustainability and self-sufficiency.
