DENVER - January 26, 2023 - Economic Literacy Colorado (ELC) announced today that it received $115,000 from the Mile High Five (MH5) Foundation during a check presentation at the ELC office. ELC was the 2022 beneficiary of MH5 Foundation’s Mile High MMAyhem (MHM) event on October 28, 2022.
“Going into the check presentation, our team had no idea how much we were about to receive. When the check was presented to us, everyone gasped, and many of us had tears in our eyes.“ said Chief Philanthropy Officer of ELC, Bill Tortorici. “We are blown away by the incredibly generous support from the MH5 Foundation. This game-changing donation will help us make an even larger impact on thousands of Colorado students' lives.”
The MH5 Foundation was founded in 2013 with the sole mission of raising money for youth and health related organizations by hosting MHM, an annual black-tie affair featuring mixed martial arts. In its ninth year, MH5 has raised over 1.4 million dollars to support causes with this mission at heart.
“We couldn't be more grateful for the community support received over the past nine years hosting MHM,” said MH5 Board Member and Event Chair, Ethan Furtek. “Many of our sponsors have been with us since the beginning, and their loyalty has allowed us to make a meaningful impact on the youth of our community. We are thrilled to have partnered with the team at Economic Literacy Colorado. Their work has had a tremendous influence on students across Colorado and we’re proud to play a role in bolstering their efforts.”
ELC sets students up with crucial life skills to understand economic and financial security by equipping teachers with tools and knowledge to teach personal finance and economics in schools. Through professional development programming for teachers and real-world, hands-on opportunities for students to learn about our economic system and explore careers in the financial industry, ELC ensures Colorado students have opportunities to learn how the economy works, how to manage personal finances, and how to make well-informed choices.
ELC is the only nonprofit organization in the state providing K-12 teachers with professional development and classroom enrichment opportunities to prepare students to understand our economic system and achieve personal financial sustainability and self-sufficiency. During the 2021-2022 school year, ELC equipped 1,163 teachers with resources and learning tools, who educated 62,979 students in 126 school districts. ELC has directly impacted more than 500,000 students over the last five years.
